The OpportunityWe are looking for a junior lawyer to join us as a
Franchising Lawyer for our successful team in Sydney. Our
Franchising Lawyers have worked with hundreds of franchisors (both Australian and international) to help grow their Australian franchise network. We assist with establishing franchise systems and the ongoing work that follows, including advising franchisors on compliance with the Franchise Code, consumer laws and leasing laws, drafting franchise suites and templates as well as drafting and negotiating franchise grants, renewals, and surrenders. We also assist clients with franchise buybacks and sales, franchising-related disputes, as well as any other commercial legal needs they may have. In this role, you can expect to get a variety of work beyond just franchising as you will also be assisting franchisors with their intellectual property matters, leasing portfolios, corporate structure and high-level employment needs.This position suits a versatile lawyer, looking to both refine their skillset and expand their knowledge base in a fast-paced, friendly and collaborative environment.
The Ideal CandidateYou’re the kind of person who loves to take on stimulating and challenging legal matters. You will be responsible for providing advice to long-standing franchise clients as well as assisting new franchise systems with their set-up. In addition to that, you will also be advising and assisting clients on a diverse range of interesting commercial work both from our franchisor clients and other clients from time to time, such as franchisees.
To be successful in this role, you will have:- At least 1 year of post-qualification experience in a reputable legal environment in franchising, leasing and/or commercial law;
- A friendly demeanour, as this role will be client-facing;
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills;
- The ability to step up and take on responsibility for day-to-day transactions;
- Drafting skills (eg. commercial/business law documents, as well as articles for our content marketing strategy);
- The ability to effectively manage competing priorities;
- Broad commercial and consumer law experience;
- A desire to work closely with clients on a day-to-day basis, and a can-do attitude;
- Commercial acumen, the ability to think on your feet; and
- A strong desire to get involved in broader business development activities both in the office and outside of it.
