Job description
- Preparing and cooking food to meet menu specifications and customer preferences.
- Ensure the quality of prepared food by meticulously regulating cooking equipment temperatures, maintaining consistency, and adhering to high standards of food safety and presentation.
- Season food appropriately and as per experience and recipe
- Plate and garnish food attractively for serving
- Setting up workstations and operating kitchen equipment
- Measuring and weighing ingredients
- Following recipes and set menus
- Baking, grilling, steaming or boiling fish, meat, vegetables and other foods
- Presenting and garnishing dishes
- Adhering to kitchen hygiene and safety standards
- Maintaining a clean workspace at all times
- Monitoring stock levels
- Storing food in temperature-controlled facilities
- Keeping up with cooking techniques and methods
- Developing and preparing food to meet special dietary requirements as per customer requirements if required
- Conscientiously consider labour and food costs in all estimations, collaborating closely with management and the chef to maintain cost-effectiveness and profitability.
- Monitoring and ensuring quality is maintained in the preparation and presentation of dishes as per the menu at all times
- Supervising the junior kitchen staff at all times with cooking techniques and procedures
- Comply with the OH & S guidelines while working in the kitchen
REQUIRED SKILLS- Minimum AQF Certificate III in Commercial Cookery qualification or equivalent
- Qualified cook with at least 2 years' experience (post Apprenticeship) in a similar role with experience is preferred.
- Great organisational skills with an acute attention to detail
- Experience in operating a kitchen in strict accordance with legislation in relation to safe food handling and WHS
- Works willingly as part of the team to ensure services are of a high standard.
