To oversee the operations of the nursery at our Macadamia Farm.

BenefitsTask & Responsibilities

Preparation of potting mix and pots for planting

Preparation of seed prior to planting and selection of seed for planting

Planting and germinating of Beaumont and H2 macadamia nuts

Selecting priority varieties and root stock for grafting

Removing subpar root stock from greenhouse

De-suckering root stock to ensure optimal central leader growth

Monitoring for pests and diseases in the nursery

Oversight of the integrated pest management program

Application of specialised fertilizers through fertigation system

Cincturing of select macadamia varieties

Using hand tools and machinery

Irrigation management – watering plants by hand as well as being in control of the automatic watering operations, maintenance of irrigation systems, cleaning of nozzles and monitoring water quality and pumps.

Taking appropriate action to improve nutritional and environmental plant disorders

Keeping records of soil ratios and mixes, planting dates and schedules, treatments used, losses and yields etc

Selecting and preparing trees for dispatch according to variety and customer order

Oversight of nursery hands

Selecting trees for grafting for contract grafter

Keeping records of plants dispatched, number of royalty varieties sold and communication with owners on all of the above

Qualification & Experience

Relevant Certificate IV qualification + 2 years relevant work experience.

Alternatively, 3 years Full Time experience may be considered in lieu of the above.
