The Duxton has established itself as the Canberra go to venue for Function and Events and requires a highly experienced Manager to help drive our business to the next level. 

As the Functions & Events Manager you will be responsible for overseeing all functions from start to finish. From working alongside the sales team with the initial booking through to ensuring consistency in food delivery & table and bar services across all functions and events. You will have the opportunity to create, train and develop your team, create a fun and attractive culture. 

You need to be passionate about the hospitality scene, have an interest in where it's going, so you can be innovative with ideas and concepts providing a first class function and events experience.

The candidate will require the following key attributes:

  • Previous experience in a similar position, in control of a busy function centre and/or hotel food and beverage function experience;
  • Sound product and industry knowledge;
  • Good financial and administrative skills;
  • Cash management as closing the venue is shared amongst all managers;
  • Inventory management: Stocktake, POS management systems;
  • A constructive and positive approach to managing people with strong leadership and mentoring ability;
  • Highly driven, motivated and a mature approach to work;
  • High standard and understanding of front of house operations;
  • Strong focus on quality and customer service; and
  • A hands on approach and able to lead by example.
     

Furthermore, the candidate will be responsible for overseeing all floor operations within the venue including:

  • Driving continuous improvement in staff performance and productivity;
  • Working alongside the GM, Venue Manager and Head Chef to achieve the best possible results;
  • Providing a hands on approach to managing the floor;
  • Assistance with managing rosters, staff availability, sick leave and staffing levels;
  • Ensure the efficient, cost effective and smooth running of day-to-day business;
  • Leading and motivate your team through experience and knowledge;
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and hygiene standards;
  • Maintaining effective relationships with suppliers/customers/staff/management;
  • Extensive knowledge in functions, menu design and development;
  • Induction and training of all staff in delivering food to customers in a timely manner;
  • Monitor quality of service and oversee all aspects of running large team of staff;
  • Induct new staff;
  • Hitting set KPI's for food/beverage and wages – these will be reviewed on a weekly/monthly basis;
  • Maintaining a clean and safe venue for staff and patrons alike;
  • Maintaining POS; and
  • Balancing all Tills, Floats and Takings
