About the National Art School
The National Art School (NAS) is at the forefront of visual arts practice utilising our distinctive studio-based teaching model to deliver exceptional higher education, research, scholarship and professional practice.
NAS is an independent art school committed to training the next generation of artists. We are focussed solely on the visual arts and the future of arts practice, offering the full range of tertiary degrees: Bachelor of Fine Art, Master of Fine Art and Doctor of Fine Art. Teaching across ceramics, drawing, painting, photomedia, printmaking and sculpture, our lecturers are experienced and award-winning artists with a deep knowledge of their disciplines and the arts industry, and our Art History &Theory faculty are PhD scholars at the top of their fields.

The position
This position is a three-year fixed term position (full time equivalent, five days per week). The Gallery Curator is a member of the Curatorial Team and provides curatorial expertise to ensure the National Art School’s artistic program and Galleries are professionally run, present best practice and contribute the understanding and appreciation of diverse Australian and international contemporary art practices through exhibitions, events, workshops and learning opportunities. The position liaises with a broad range of stakeholders, both internal and external, including exhibiting artists, visitors, general public, volunteers, marketing, facilities, security, and teaching staff. The role contributes to audience development by assisting in initiatives that support the National Art School’s vision and strategic goals.
What you bring to the role
You will have experience in all duties related to devising, delivering and mounting of exhibitions, including: Research, artist and stakeholder liaison, artwork selection, negotiation of public and private loans, loan agreements and exhibition/artists contracts, condition reporting and registration, insurance documentation, shipping, artwork handling, supervising exhibition installation, maintaining exhibition spaces including lighting and storage. Additionally, you will have curatorial essay writing experience including editorial and texts for exhibition catalogues, publication preparation and delivery.
