The General Counsel of the Legal Services Commission is a key member of the Commission’s executive and has principal responsibility to manage a high performing team that supports the Commissioner in the discharge of regulatory obligations.
You will be the Commissioner’s senior legal adviser and responsible for all litigation and strategic policy of the Commission.

As the General Counsel at the Commission, you will be responsible for leading a team that is central to the performance of the Commissioner's functions under the Legal Profession Act 2007, in directing external engagement and internal performance of the litigation team. You will also provide expert legal advice on the Commissioner's functions, statutory responsibilities and service deliverables.
You will have experience in litigation and providing senior level strategic legal, policy and performance delivery. You are a senior peoples' leader with a track record in delivering in partnership with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
You will lead a team responsible for providing legal advice to the Commissioner and the Commission and preparing, instructing and appearing in matters on behalf of the Commissioner. Litigation by the Commissioner includes discipline applications before the disciplinary bodies, prosecutorial and enforcement action before the courts and other regulatory litigation such as injunctions and banning orders.
The role is in a busy office environment with increased demand on our regulatory functions. All staff are expected to work in an agile and collaborative manner, both in delivery of the strategic and operational plans and in responding to emerging issues.
