ABOUT YOU
As part of the Leadership team and reporting directly to the General Manager, you are hands on and use your sound judgement to provide commercially focussed legal and solution-based advice across the business and to our customers. You are a trusted partner who lives our values and aligns key strategic legal initiatives with business objectives to drive organisational success, and fosters a positive, collaborative, and safe work culture.
You direct the Independent Legal Practice of Mutual Marketplace Legal Pty Ltd and lead a team of 4 lawyers and 1 paralegal.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Your working week will be busy and diverse, including but not limited to the following core responsibilities of:
- Ensuring Mutual Marketplace complies with statutory obligations under relevant laws and regulations;
- Supervising and coaching direct reports to continue their growth and maximise capability;
- Strengthening working relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, external legal teams and vendors;
- Working with the Board and Leadership team in the management of corporate governance and risk obligations;
- Leading the development and updating of standardised agreements and other legal documentation for the business and its customers.
SKILL AND EXPERIENCE
- Law degree qualified and eligible to hold an unrestricted Principal Practising Certificate in Queensland.
- A minimum 5 years’ experience at General Counsel level with experience in both private practice and inhouse practice.
- Experience as a Company Secretary.
- Knowledge and experience as principal of an incorporated legal practice or a willingness to be the Legal Practitioner Director of Mutual Marketplace Legal Pty Ltd.
- In depth knowledge and experience in financial services (preferably in retail banking) and contracting and procurement across multiple Australian jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated success in managing stakeholders and their needs, preferably in a shared service environment.
