About our Role:
Working in close collaboration with the Chief Executive, the General Manager Communications is responsible for Australian Energy Producers’ communications strategy, advice, direction and campaigns aimed at improving the awareness and sentiment towards gas, including through Australian Energy Producers’ Brighter platform. This role will work closely with Australian Energy Producers’ senior leadership team and external providers to ensure communications are targeted to effectively influence key decision makers to achieve outcomes that reflect the priorities of our members and seek to position the industry for long term success and sustainability. The role will provide leadership and guidance to enable the communications team to effectively provide support to the Australian Energy Producers team specifically in relation to service to members, managing the media, key stakeholders and to influence government.
Key accountabilities include:
- Develop, execute and measure the success of the internal and external communications strategy and direction.
- Design and oversee structures for integrated Australian Energy Producers communications across all streams of work
- Manage strategic campaigns, including working with key stakeholders in the development, design, implementation and measurement of campaign outcomes
- Establish critical stakeholder relationships to support Australian Energy Producers objectives
- Work with the internal Directors to ensure communications are engaging and influence key stakeholders, the highest levels across government, industry and other key organisations influencing the sector’s future direction
- Maintain oversight of media relations, activities and any emerging issues
- Manage Communications budget
About You:
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Extensive experience working as a communications executive
- Experience in public affairs, government relations or cross-function communications
- A solid understanding of current communications tactics and measurement across traditional media, social media and direct communications
- Proven ability to design and deliver multi-channel, long range communications campaign
- Senior leadership experience leading a geographically dispersed team delivering results; leadership experience in an industry association would be advantageous
- Management of high-volume programs of work across different audiences
- High-level organisation skills including well-developed priority-setting skills, management of others and the ability to meet deadlines
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills
- Superior interpersonal skills, including liaison and negotiation skills
- Strong presentation skills and experience addressing stakeholder groups
- Strong experience working with senior industry leaders, Ministers, and the media
- Tertiary qualifications in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing
- An understanding of energy and resource issues desirable
