About The Role
Due to business growth we are seeking an experienced General Manager – Health and Safety to join Whitehaven Coal.
The General Manager Health and Safety develops and implements Health and Safety aspects of the WHC HSE Strategy and initiatives to improve Health and Safety outcomes across the business. The role is accountable for developing, and maintaining Group wide standards that set minimum expectations and provide clarity to operations and projects.
Providing oversight to the business on best practice Health and Safety the role will deliver a number of key objectives.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver a shared vision and commitment to an industry-leading health and safety culture at all levels of our business, developing and executing strategies to move towards a resilient health and safety culture
- Provide support across our business, improving performance towards getting all our people home safely through analysis of lead/lag indicators and the development and execution of health and safety improvement strategies
- Build close and supportive relationships with business units ensuring best practice health and safety management is championed and prioritised
- Maintain an effective H&S framework, including the development of the H&S aspects of the WHC HSE Strategy, forward focussed H&S targets and WHC scorecard
- Engages regulatory bodies, industry bodies and non-government organisations on H&S issues that span multiple Operations
- Monitor and assess the impact of changes to safety legislation to the business and ensure appropriate action is taken to meet compliance
What You’ll Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Risk, Engineering, Science, Applied Science or other suitable qualification
- Experience in HSE roles and heavy industry / mining is preferred
- Experience in leading teams across multiple locations
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to engage and influence large and diverse teams at multiple levels in the organisation focusing on customer requirements
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills
- Strategic and organisational ability
