GENERAL MANAGER – OPERATIONS


Location: Canberra
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

ANU Sport is an independent incorporated association that delivers sport, fitness and recreation services and opportunities to the ANU Community. ANU Sport is a UniSport Australia and Elite Athlete Friendly University member institution and the ANU is a member of the Group of 8, Australia’s eight leading universities.
We exist to facilitate connections within the campus community through health, well-being and sport. Our aim is to enhance and grow the opportunities for students and the ANU community to engage in sport, fitness, and recreation, promoting well-being and balanced lifestyles. ANU Sport is responsible for the operation and management of the ANU Sport Fitness Centre and all the University sport and recreation facilities, along with supporting over 30 sport and recreation clubs and delivering social and competitive sporting programs.


About the Role:
The General Manager – Operations, holds a pivotal role in oversight of the daily operations of the facilities and stakeholder engagement across all areas of the Association. This role will require management of full time and casual staff, in addition to oversight of members, clients and contractors utilising the facilities and participating in programs. The General Manager – Operations and Facilities, will be the building custodian for all ANU Sport managed facilities and may be required to work out of business hours to complete required duties at times.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing the key deliverables of the Operations Business Unit, which encompasses fitness centre operations and facilities management.
  • Managing the key deliverables of the Sport Business Unit
  • Development and oversight of the operations and sport budget and strategy direction
  • Management and development of the operations and sport teams’ staff
  • Management of the Association’s full range of facilities and grounds, including role of Building Custodian
  • Oversight of Customer Management Software for facility hire and membership management
  • Oversight of the Association’s WH&S management, risk management and insurance policies
  • Management of contractors, including cleaning and repairs and maintenance.
  • Oversight of the use and maintenance of ANU Sport’s facilities
  • Contribution to and implementation of the Association’s asset management plan and any lease and license agreements with the University
  • Day to day management of capital works projects, in coordination with ANU’s Facilities and Services Project Managers
  • Submissions of infrastructure grants
  • Stakeholder engagement with Affiliated Clubs, the ANU Facilities and Services Team, and the wider University and Association community
  • Enhance the business outcomes and community accessibility of ANU Sport’s facilities
  • Other duties as directed.

  • ANU Facilities and Services Staff – Building Operations and Maintenance, and Landscape and Conversation.

  • Sports industry – leading practice and organisation philosophy

About you:
Our ideal candidate is an experienced General Manager with a passion for facility development, management and stakeholder engagement. Experience in the tertiary sector would be highly regarded. The General Manager must be solutions focused and enjoys taking on a challenge. You are a leader that can ensure a high standard maintained by the staff members under your supervision.
