General Manager - Operations

Our client, known for its leading-edge technology across micro tunnelling, vertical drilling, and trenchless drilling industries, is part of a broader Group that owns a portfolio of businesses that hold a strong market presence across the manufacturing of drill rigs, modular drilling systems and consumables. Their point of differentiation is underpinned by having a strong DNA on innovation and its vertically integrated business model.

We are in search for an experienced General Manager– Operations from heavy industrial manufacturing industry to build the capability and bring about operational excellence to enable the growth and market positioning across the three market tranches within the drilling and tunnelling industry.

You will need to be an inclusive leader with a track record in organisational change, building a high-performance culture (lean manufacturing), bringing the voice of the customer onto the shop floor, and achieving benchmark productivity and quality outputs to underpin targeted market growth.

Located in South East Queensland and reporting to the Managing Director: 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build trust and confidence to become an unwavering business partner to the Managing Director.
• Key stakeholder in contributing to strategic planning and the execution to align operational activities with the targeted business objectives.
• Leading and the overall management across all aspects of production, maintenance operations and HSE.
• Manager the day-to-day operational activities from raw materials through to finished goods and logistics.
• Evaluating current operational practices and introduce effective changes to optimise productivity, reduce waste and bring about a sustained lean manufacturing culture.
• Bring about full transparency by analysing current financial performance, identifying the productivity pain-points and the ability to measure production, waste, and quality (key metrics).
• Overseeing maintenance and engineering activities to ensure optimisation of equipment and facilities.
• Projects and capital works initiatives to support business growth and development.
• Implement continuous improvement methodologies to bring about operational efficiency and effectiveness.
• Strong leadership across the sales and operational planning activities across the group.
• Mentor, coach, and develop a high-performance culture.
• Strong commercial and financial know-how, a continuous improvement mindset and full accountability across the operational financial performance.

BACKGROUND  

• 10+ years’ experience as a General Manager or Senior Leader in the heavy industrial manufacturing industry (batch and continuous).
• Tertiary qualified in mechanical engineering or related discipline is preferable.
• Proven experience leading strategic projects, continuous improvement, and organisational change.
• Ability to lead and influence at all levels of the business, with a focus on developing high performing teams across the shop floor. 
• Leading a tenured team, you will being high levels of EQ and an inclusive workplace without compromising business deliverables.
• Keen sense of urgency, adaptability, and accountability to strive for excellence in any situation.
