This role is the directional and hands-on management of the Foodworks supermarket and newsagency which is owned by the Quairading Co-operative.
A major difference between this role and a similar role in the city is the lifestyle balance based on the store's trading hours, the expectations of the role, and the opportunity of living within a short distance from work ( going home for lunch is the “norm” ).
Quairading is 164 km east of Perth ( a 2 hour drive ), the town was established in 1907, and has a current population of around 1,000 persons with agriculture being the predominant industry.
There is a hospital and medical practise, a primary school and district high school ( pre-primary to year 10, with year 11 & 12 students usually boarding in Perth, Northam, or Merredin ), and there is also a pool, large sports ground with most game facilities, modern tennis courts, lawn bowls and an 18 hole golf course.
The Co-op was established in 1916, and is a Foodworks supermarket that also sells certain newsagency items and is the town’s Lotto agent.
There are 4 F/T, 4 P/T and 15 casuals staff with the roster showing between 4 and 8 on the floor at any one time based on sales and deliveries etc
The trading hours are:-
Mon to Wed 8.00 to 5.00
Thurs 8.00 to 6.00
Friday 8.00 to 5.00
Sat 8.00 to 12.00
Sun 8.00 to 12.00
The position is responsible for the strategic performance and day to day operations of the business and includes the control of all buying, stock management, advertising, staffing, merchandising and financial management.
The previous CEO’s hours was a 5 day week however she wasn’t on the roster, and generally had the Wednesday off.
The remuneration package is negotiable and includes a base salary, superannuation, and a company house..
The accommodation is an air-conditioned 4 bedroom, 1 study, 2 bathroom, 2 toilet, living / dining room, plus a kitchen / family room home of brick and iron construction on a substantial plot of land within the town.
The selection criteria includes extensive retail management experience, excellent people skills ( leadership style is especially important in a country town) , and sound financial skills / business acumen.
The successful applicant's background will probably be supermarket or FMCG ( Fast Moving Consumer Goods ) and their management style will be very hands-on, prepared to be very operational and help team with daily duties.
As this position is a senior position in the community, the successful applicant will have a desire to become a part of the community.
