Purpose of the Position


As a General Services Officer, assist the Campus Operations Manager in the day-to-day functions of Property Services.  Responsibilities will include cleaning of offices, residential and ablution areas, ground maintenance and building security. Picking up and dropping off students and meal provisions.

Duties

  1. Carry out daily cleaning of buildings and associated fittings and fixtures.
  2. Pick up and drop off students as required.
  3. Undertake programmed and ad hoc maintenance tasks, follow all directions from Campus Operations Manager to carry out duties as required.
  4. Assist in maintaining adequate stores and equipment for performance of individual and work team responsibilities.
  5. Assist with on-the-job training of staff.
  6. Report to the Campus Operations Manager incidents of vandalism, breakages and Maintenance requirements including identification of work health and safety considerations.
  7. With the guidance from Campus Operations Manager, assist with vehicle checks, delivery, and cleaning, re-fueling and minor maintenance, as required.
  8. Undertake a wide range of minor facilities maintenance, including repairs to furniture, fittings, hardware, equipment, and buildings.
  9. Carry out regular rubbish removal from campus buildings and maintain building to a presentable standard.
  10. Inspect walkways, roads, and car park services, keeping them clean and safe for regular traffic and personal.
Selection Criteria - Essential
  1. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
  2. Experience in industrial cleaning, general maintenance, grounds maintenance and gardening.
  3. Self-motivated and proven ability to work both independently and as part of a versatile team.
  4. Ability to act on own initiative in contributing to ongoing improvements in work practices, and the solving of unusual challenges.
  5. Ability to be flexible and work across a variety of skill areas and a willingness to undertake further training relevant to the duties of this position.
  6. Current NT “LR” class or above driver’s license.
  7. Demonstrated initiative and managing workload priorities.

  • Applicants must be able and willing to undertake travel throughout the NT and Interstate (sometimes as a light aircraft passenger) and possess a C class Driver’s Licence.
    
Work Health & Safety
  • Ensure all activities comply with WHS legislation and Institute policies & procedures.
  • Implement & monitor risk management activities including, but not limited to, workplace inspections, incident/hazard investigation and follow-up, and implementation of risk controls.
  • Analysis of WHS training requirements for staff including the provision of training and monitoring of training to ensure completion and currency.
