The Position:
The role of the Senior Doctor is to provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to directly or indirectly benefit the patients/clients of the Hospital and Health Service. This includes research as well as teaching the health professionals of the future. In addition to the key responsibilities, the role of the Senior Medical Officer (Specialist) is to provide such services as may be reasonably directed from time to time by the Professional or Operational Manager.
The Health Service:
At the Local Health District they provide a range of public health services to the selective regions of New South Wales; across a geographic area of approximately 125,631 square kilometres. With around 241,000 residents living within their District, they employ approximately 4,000 staff who work within their 31 hospitals and community facilities.
The Hospital is a 119 bed facility with 100 hospital care beds and 10 maternity beds. Each year we support approximately 19,500 emergency presentations, 2,500 operations and 600 births.
The Hospital provides and a 24 hour Emergency Department (ED) with 15 ED spaces. The ED is supported by an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and also equipped with telehealth cameras to connect the team with specialists across the NSW Critical Care Advisory Service.
They provide a range of specialist services (both resident & visiting) including emergency medicine, critical care, general medicine, surgery, paediatric medicine, oncology, obstetrics, respiratory medicine, renal dialysis and rehabilitation.
Additional services include physiotherapy, dietetics, social work, pharmacy, occupational therapy and Aboriginal health. There are also a range of diagnostic services including Pathology, CAT Scans, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound and General X-Ray.
The Location:
Being a major regional city, located in the north western park of NSW it is known commonly as the food bowl of Australia.
With a population of approximately 26,000, the region comprises a rich blend of cultures and traditions. Today more than 70 nationalities add to the cultural tapestry of the region; boasting some of the best produce in Australia. With many wonderful food and wine offerings, it has grown into a bustling and cosmopolitan culinary centre.
Its main airport is located 5km from the town centre with regional express flights operating daily to and from Sydney. With competitive housing market and three high schools, 13 primary schools and various day care and pre-school facilities in the area, it makes it a good location for singles, couples and families.
