Maintaining positive relationships with families involved with the service is a hallmark of the success of the GoLD service.Where you’ll be working:
- The GoLD service (incorporating the previously existing NSW Fragile X service) was established in 2000. This initiative was state funded with the purpose of advancing research into inherited intellectual disability and providing clinical genetic services to affected families.
- In this role you will be based at Hunter Genetics at Waratah and work with the Newcastle based GoLD team.
- The GoLD staff consists of Clinical Geneticists, CNC/Genetic Counsellors and associate Genetic Counsellors working together as a team.
- Four (4) weeks annual leave for temporary and permanent employees (pro-rata if part time).

- Orientation is provided to all new staff members. Orientation modules are online and mandatory training is supported through My Health Learning. Senior GoLD staff will provide support for new staff.
- In this role you will be supported by the team to participate in clinical and research work.
- Line management is provided by the Principal Genetic Counsellor.
- Professional development opportunities include case discussion, clinical updates, GoLD monthly meetings, group supervision, journal club.
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant health-related discipline (e.g. Science, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, or other as deemed relevant by the employer) and full certification through the Board of Censors for Genetic Counselling (Human Genetics Society of Australasia) and where relevant appropriate postgraduation qualifications and /or experience outlined by the relevant award with current registration (or eligible for same) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- In addition, nurses applying for appointment at CNC Grade 2 must possess at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in a relevant specialty field and have approved relevant postgraduate nursing qualifications or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate.
- You must have full certification through the Board of Censors HGSA.
- You must have experience working with individuals and families with or at risk of intellectual disability.
- You will be an excellent communicator who is experienced working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Previous relevant research experience would be highly regarded.
- An eligibility list will be created for future temporary part time vacancies.
