Position: Global Health Communications Adviser  

Location: Canberra

Monthly Remuneration: AU$8,840 to $10,400 (including superannuation)

Duration: July 2024 – June 2025 with the possibility of an extension

The Opportunity:

The Global Health Communications Adviser will support overall communications needs of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) Global Health Division (GHD), including drafting and delivering communication platforms and products. 

Specific Duties:

  • Support implementation of the Global Health Division communications strategy 
  • Develop communications material, including social media posts, speeches, blog posts and other material for various stakeholders
  • Monitor social and other media to identify relevant material for amplification
  • Provide public affairs and communication support for the Ambassador for Global Health, including supporting management of the Ambassador’s Twitter/X account
  • Identify opportunities for public diplomacy and support or lead on organisation of public events for the Global Health Division as required
  • Maintain and update the website for the Indo-Pacific Centre for Health Security 
  • Act as back-up for the Global Health Communications Officer as required, including participating in meetings.
  • Liaising with DFAT posts to provide communications support. 
  • Other duties as directed.

Key Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing communication products and platforms and public events.
  • Knowledge and experience in both development policy and public service. 
  • Minimum of two years working in communications.
  • A university qualification in communications or a related field. 
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills, including ability to write for web, social media, speeches and translating technical content.
  • Website management skills, including basic administration and graphic design. 
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, specifically InDesign and Premier Pro and Photoshop. 
  • Highly organised and able to deliver to time constraints.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small, flexible team and adapt to changing needs in the broader organisational context.
  • Security clearance at or above NV1 is highly desirable. This is negotiable for the right applicant, provided they are prepared to undergo a baseline security clearance and potentially work towards an NV1 clearance.
  • Fluency in English and demonstrated ability to express orally and in writing complex ideas in clear and simple language.
  • Experience in a health for development setting and/or experience translating technical content into plain English.
