Your new role
An opportunity exists for an experienced, dynamic, and highly motivated professional to join the council in the role of Governance Officer.
The Governance Officer will play a critical role in providing quality oversight of organisational governance, compliance and related organisational risk management to the Shire. Other key activities in this role include management of statutory registers, leases and agreements and leading regular policy reviews.
Applicants must have proven knowledge and experience, excellent time management abilities, analytical skills and have a great eye for detail. Commitment to working in a team environment to achieve continuous improvement is essential.
What'll you do as part of this role?
• Monitor and manage the Shire’s compliance with the Local Government Act 1995, Regulations and other relevant legislation
• Manage and maintain all statutory registers, ensuring they are current and comply with Acts and Regulations
• Maintain and update the Compliance Calendar
• Manage the preparation and submission of the Annual Compliance Audit Return
• Liaise with regulatory and industry bodies to keep up-to-date with legislative amendments
• Ensure the Shire’s website contains all information required by legislation
• Facilitate the review of the Shire’s Local Laws
• Manage the Council and organisational policy review process, including leading policy reviews with the Executive Team.
• Manage the Council and Operational Policy documentation and communication.
• Manage the leasing requirements for all Council properties, including residential, commercial, those for community purposes, and aged accommodation as applicable.
• Periodically review the methodology for leasing, including development of relevant policies and procedures.
• Provide regular updates on compliance with conditions of contracts, leases and agreements
• Be responsible for the maintenance of the Shire’s Risk Management Framework
• Undertake actions to integrate risk management into the organisational culture
• Undertake the triennial review of the Shire’s Business Continuity Plan
• Lead process reviews and improvement initiatives and provide training as required
• Provide backup for other staff as required
• Coordinate Local Government Elections
• Provide reports, presentations and/or workshops as required
