Job description

The Department of Health is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a General Practitioner with Specific Interest (GPSI) role.
An exciting opportunity exists within the Department of Health for a suitably qualified GP to be part of a multidisciplinary team providing high quality health and well-being services to young people aged 12-24. Youth Health South is part of the Department of Women’s and Children’s Services which is a supportive, cohesive, and highly functioning team that is motivated to meet the service needs of our community. The occupant will run a Specific Interest clinic that promotes wellbeing and preventative services including mental wellbeing and sexual health, support young people to manage and maintain better health outcomes, and support the day-to-day services of the Pulse Youth Health Service. Evidence from other jurisdictions shows that GPSIs are accepted by patients, hospital staff and GPs; that wait lists are improved; integration between primary and secondary services benefits; and GPs can take learnings from the specialist outpatient clinic back into the community.
The Role:
As part of a multidisciplinary team the occupant will:
Provide consultation and client reviews in conjunction with specialist adolescent outpatient clinics
Participate in the effective triage of specialist outpatient referrals
Perform agreed procedures
Coordinate individuals’ needs, including liaison with their care team
Participate in ongoing review and development of the clinic and service including required supports
Provide high quality care, consultation and education within the multidisciplinary team
The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.
Details of Appointment
Fixed term, part time, day worker position working up to 15.2 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for 1 year (up to 30 June 2025).

Salary:
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 - Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $210,000 - $301,349 pro rata per annum* + 11% superannuationSalary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
*Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,410 - $301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available, but not limited to:
Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,000 per annum pro rata

Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant speciality
Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)

It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners; or
Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine
Current and ongoing clinical practice in the community
