About the Role
The Graduate Engineer provides support for the electrical and communications operational assets on the Gold Coast light rail network. Reporting directly to the Electrical Operations Manager for the entire operational alignment, this role is an amazing chance for a person looking to gain hands-on experience, supported by a team of professional RPEQ engineers. The Gold Coast light rail has a broad range of electrical and communications assets and the successful applicant will get experience on all of them. This includes traction power sub-stations, overhead traction power lines, TETRA radio, industrial networks, telephony networks, and the latest SCADA software the industry has to offer. The assets you will be looking after range in age, from over 10 years old for Stage 1 of the alignment, which was completed in 2014, through to brand new, being completed in the latest Stage 3 of the network which is currently under construction. This will give you exposure to a broad depth of operational engineering experience, from understanding design considerations, through to operational performance and lifecycle replacement (essentially design review & construct).
The Team
The successful applicant will join the Technical department of KD. This team consists of 25 other people, a mixture of qualified and experienced Engineers, Tradespeople (Technicians) and Administration Support. The KD Technical department is also supported by a large group of specialist subcontractors who assist the team in ensuring over $1.5 billion of infrastructure operates at over 99% availability.
About you, your skills and experience
- Essential Qualification: Educated to degree level in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering;
- Preferred (but not essential) experience in the following industries: Rail, Transportation, Utilities;
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to meet deadlines;
- Be able to read and understand engineering specifications, schematic drawings and sketches;
- Advanced level abilities MS suite, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel;
- An understanding of relational databases and ability to utilise online database software (preferred, but not essential);
- Work as a Rail Safety Worker Category 1 (safety critical worker). Note this requirement will be paid for by Keolis Downer for the successful candidate;
- Ability to assimilate and apply unfamiliar technical information quickly and accurately;
- Project Management skills;
- Ability to work in multi-functional technical teams and to plan and organise own workload to meet job requirements;
- Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Customer-focused with the ability to inspire a team with commitment and enthusiasm;
- Able to identify and rectify problems and issues in a timely manner;
- Ability to act and behave with integrity and in accordance with KDGC’s code of conduct and values at all times and in such manner so as not to bring KDGC into disrepute or disrespect;
- Able to motivate and mentor technical staff; and
- Legally entitled to live and work in Australia.
As part of the recruitment processes at KD, pre-employment checks include National Police Certificate and Rail Safety Worker Medical. Further to this, successful candidates will be required to provide a National Police Certificate where requested throughout employment and maintain their Rail Safety Medical status.
