The South Gippsland Hospital (SGH) Graduate Nursing Program (GNP) and Graduate Nurse/Midwife Program (GNMP) is designed for new Graduate Nurse and nurse/midwives to develop specific knowledge and skills required to work in an acute setting. This is a structured program to assist the Graduate Nurse andNurse/Midwife to practice as a safe, confident and accountable professional.
Program Structure
Duration – The graduate program is a 52-week contract
Hours: – 0.84 EFT (64 hours per fortnight)
Intake numbers:
4 positions which will commence 30th January 2025
(3 Graduate nurse positions and 1 graduate Nurse Midwife position)
Orientation
• 30th January – 2nd February 2025 plus 4 supernumerary shifts on acute ward
• This will include introductions to senior staff and completion of mandatory training (theory and practical)
• Additional orientation and supernumerary time are provided in the specialty areas
Clinical Rotations
Rotations include the Acute ward and specialty areas of Peri-operative Suite and Community Nursing.
Graduate Support
The GNP is provided in a best practice clinical learning environment supported by a Clinical Support Nurse and Nurse Educator. Our Nurse Unit Managers and friendly and experienced staff are always on hand to provide support and positive learning experiences.
Professional Development Leave
Graduates are allocated paid professional development leave to attend relevant study days throughout the program.
