An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join our Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital team in a Full-Time capacity as a Grounds and Maintenance Attendant!

The mission of Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital is to rescue, repair, rehabilitate and release sick, injured and orphaned Australian native animals. Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital is an emergency wildlife hospital operating 24 hours a day – 365 days per year, which admits more than 10,000 sick injured and orphaned native animals annually.
The Grounds and Maintenance team report directly to the Hospital Manager and assist with maintaining the grounds of the wildlife hospital, as well as the main Hospital building.
A successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to work in a high-performance environment, with a capacity to deliver all requirements of the role, great work ethic and the ability to work to a high standard within a team.
Key Responsibilities –
- Mowing and whipper-snipper use
- Weeding and pruning
- Watering and maintaining the irrigation system
- Planting, mulching and general gardening
- Operation and general maintenance of machinery
- Fence maintenance
- Maintaining the trees and shrubbery
- Conduct environment and habitat safety checks where appropriate
- Maintain relevant vehicles and trailers
- Maintain the main Hospital building wherever required
Essential Criteria –
- Excellent communication skills
- Satisfactory & suitable level of fitness & wellbeing to safely perform the duties
- Knowledge and passion for Native Fauna
- Previous grounds/maintenance experience
- Experience operating machinery, such as 4WD’s and other vehicles
- Hold current Manual Driver’s Licence
Preferred Criteria –
- Chainsaw and working at heights qualification
- Previous experience building animal habitats (highly desired)
- Any other relevant certificates/licenses
- Cert III or higher in Horticulture/Land Management
