Our client is a Canadian Pension Fund and the largest investor in Australian agriculture with more than $7.5B AUM. They have built an unprecedented portfolio of investments and partnerships in real assets (mainly land, water and biological assets), as well as in the related post farm gate supply chain. They have 8 distinct portfolios that cover the major agricultural asset classes and types of enterprise, making it one of the most significant players in the natural resources sector in the region. They have a strong appetite for continued expansion and will continue to prioritise direct, long-term investments alongside like-minded, best-in-class local operating partners.
The Position:
This role operates as the centralised conduit between the Pension Fund’s head office in Canada and the agriculture investments in Australasia. They are responsible for maximizing economies of scale, efficiencies and knowledge sharing throughout the Group’s investments and JVs.
The successful individual will both lead and support M&A and deals activity across the Group. They will leverage their network for originating opportunities, supporting negotiations, deal management, and assisting with in the review of financial projections, valuation assumptions and the preparation of investment recommendation memorandums.
They will further develop and manage the FP&A processes, tools and cycle of the Group’s Australasia JVs – Reporting, Budgeting, Long Range Strategic Planning. Additionally, they will play a key role in strategic projects that support the integration of large-scale acquisitions, oversee coordinated initiatives that seek to leverage the Group’s scale, as well as drive the quarterly reporting process.
The Requirements:
The successful individual will demonstrate extensive M&A and FP&A experience with exposure to transaction investment analysis and structuring in the agriculture and/or timber sectors. Excellent skills across project management, stakeholder management, communication and presentation and the ability to demonstrate leadership and sound commercial judgement are critical.
10 years’ experience in corporate finance, private investment, investment banking or consulting with CA and/or CFA qualifications (or equivalent) are required.
