Welcome to Tagai State College - Thursday Island Tagai State College comprises of 16 Primary Campuses, 1 Secondary campus and a TAFE facility spread across 15 islands and 48,000 square kilometres in the beautiful Torres Strait. Thursday Island takes the name Waiben meaning ‘no water or place of no water', owing to the scarcity of fresh water on the island. The island is also known as TI. Our indigenous students speak a number of traditional languages and this great gift is valued within the campuses and embedded into the curriculum offerings. About the Role As the Guidance Officer, you will be required to provide leadership, support and case management in responding to some of the most complex and challenging of circumstances including student protection matters, critical incidents and mental health issues. You will have the ability to form strong and productive relationships with key stakeholders in order to develop and implement plans and programs that are responsive to the needs of students. You will have responsibility for the following key tasks: Advocate, provide counselling, psychoeducational assessment and individual student support, recommendations and advice to students, teachers and parents concerning educational, behavioural, career development, mental health and family issues. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and facilitate effective working relationships and partnerships with parents, school personnel and external support agencies in order to provide a comprehensive support, case management and referral service that optimises students' access and engagement in educational programs.
