The newly opened W Sydney in Darling Harbour is now casting for an Engineering Handyperson to facilitate repairs and maintenance to support the engineering operations. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Engineering, this integral role provides support to the business and presents an amazing opportunity to play a key role in maintaining the world’s largest W Hotel.
The Handyperson’s primary responsibilities include assisting Engineering management in executing strategies that maintain the building, contents and grounds with particular attention towards fire life safety, security and asset protection.
The position performs scheduled preventative maintenance in guest rooms, meeting rooms, and public spaces as required, including touch-up painting, ensuring that all appliances are present in the room and in working order, replacing light fixtures and inspecting grout and caulking and make good as necessary. Carry out maintenance tasks in accordance with the property room preventative maintenance procedures and standard guidelines. Perform routine pool and spa maintenance. Respond to maintenance on hotel equipment and assets as required and miscellaneous minor repairs such as filter replacement, changing light bulbs, and patching holes in walls. Report any serious maintenance problems, unusual findings, or safety hazards immediately to the manager/supervisor.
Supports objectives outlined in the Engineering Business Plan and delivers services that meet and exceed the needs of guests and enable business success. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations and HIDs (standard operating procedures).
To be a successful Handyperson you will possess strong prioritisation skills, exceptional problem-solving skills, a flair for culture, be creative, thinking out of the box constantly, highly organised, and have an exceptional inter-personal skill.
Talent Profile
Education & Experience Required
- Minimum one year experience in engineering/facilities
- Hospitality experience will be advantageous
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, and attention to detail.
- EWP license advantageous

- Carries out urgent and non-urgent maintenance requests
- Supports the engineering team day to day operations
- Supports and drives improved guest experiences
- Assists external contractors and outsourced preventative maintenance programs
- Monitor stock levels of critical spares
- Carry out preventative maintenance tasks
- Drive synergies with key departments and stakeholders
- Supports and innovates energy, water and waste conservation programs
