The opportunity to work in one of Brisbane’s great fresh produce & gourmet stores - The Hawthorne Garage is available for you. The Hawthorne Garage is a store that has made its footprint in the Eastern Suburbs of Brisbane for the past 11 years. The opportunity to work and run a business in a high flow environment with a highly developed team, you will manage all aspects of the store to maximise sales turnover, profit, customer satisfaction and employee advancement by adopting best practice procedures.
The role is varied and includes:
- Assisting and advising all department managers of store expectations to deliver all products and provide excellent customer service.
- Manage a large team of employees from Managerial level down.
- Conduct staff inductions and provide monitoring during the probationary periods.
- Develop and manage teams to maintain and develop enthusiasm and job satisfaction.
- Prepare, conduct and run weekly team meetings.
- Encourage monthly staff meetings and social events.
- Create and monitor staff rosters, wages and budgets.
- Handle all escalated issues professionally and efficiently.
- Implement and manage cost control measures including wages.
- Oversee shrinkage and wastage control.
- Oversee advertised lines and ensure minimal out of stocks.
- Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and improvement.
- Complete reports as required in regard to store operations.
- Preparation and monitoring of budgets.
- Ensure control and efficiency in all areas of stock management, ensuring stock takes are conducted as required.
- Monitor the weekly financial reports and KPI's, analyse the departmentalised financial accounts and key performance indicators.
- Identify problems in area of profitability and initiate strategies for improvement.
- Comparison of budgets to actual performance.
- Appoint, train and mentor department managers.
- Effectively and responsibly delegate.
- Lead by example in all areas of management.
- Ensure and monitor cleanliness of the store and nearby outdoor environment.
- Understand the impact and purpose of technology within the workplace and possess advanced skill in using relevant technology.
- Follow any reasonable direction not stated in this position description and be aware of your role and responsibilities.
The successful applicant will have an enthusiasm for retail and at least 5 years grocery, produce and/or gourmet management experience. Additional skills and attributes include:

- Open, professional and friendly verbal communication.
- 5 Years grocery, produce and/or gourmet store management experience.
