Head Nurse/Practice Manager (Small animal & Wildlife practice).
Straddie Vet is expanding from consulting rooms/mobile practice into a purpose-built Small animal and wildlife clinic which is due to open its’ doors in June 2024. Straddie Vet will be a well-equipped clinic located on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), a 25-minute ferry ride from Cleveland, QLD.
Our team is seeking an inspired, diligent, motivated and experienced nurse with practice management expertise to lead our team, grow the Small animal practice and develop a wildlife triage & treatment service.
You must be able to demonstrate the ability to live and work in a remote setting, experience creating and nurturing relationships with multiple stakeholders (government/non-government and traditional owners). It would be ideal to have a post-graduate qualification or similar in the veterinary wildlife field that includes research and have experience in development, implementation, monitoring of research and education programs for community engagement. You will be supporting a dedicated team in a growing, privately owned veterinary clinic.
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure a smooth running of the day-to-day schedule.
• Supervising and supporting the veterinary team.
• Develop and improve the clinic processes and procedures.
• Upholding and maintaining a high level of effective patient care without supervision.
• Assisting with general and surgical nursing duties.
• Growing our ability to safely triage, treat and provide short term care for our sick, injured and orphaned wildlife patients on the island. This includes developing protocols and procedures, alongside the vets, for exceptional levels of care.
• Develop relationships with key stakeholders to grow our research and education abilities within the wildlife and conservation arenas.
• Seek engagement, support and funding from multiple stakeholders to grow and improve our wildlife triage, education and research capabilities within the practice.
• Team management including regular performance management of nursing team.
• Be highly engaged in customer experience and client loyalty activities, clinic service streams, marketing, digital services, social media, complaint resolution and compliments.
• Managing the financial performance of the clinic, stock control, procurement, accounts, budgets.
• Facilities and equipment maintenance.
• Collaborate closely with the practice owner and team, helping streamline processes and improve the overall efficiency of our growing practice.
• Workplace Health and Safety compliance and governance.
About You/Ideal experience:
• Be a genuine team player who loves to build great relationships with people and committed to providing high standards of care.
• Have a minimum of 10 years of vet nursing/practice manager experience and have a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent degree.
• Post graduate degree in the veterinary wildlife field or equivalent.
• Have extensive experience with and a passion for working with wildlife, ideally with experience in research, conservation, and education.
• Proven ability to work and live in a remote setting.
• Be efficient at multitasking, organisation, and leading with a friendly touch.
• Have exceptional communication skills and leadership qualities, with attention to detail and an ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Able to take ownership of tasks and is always looking to learn and develop.
• Desire to grow our business and implementing creative marketing initiatives that grow our clinic is important.
• Be comfortable actively monitoring anaesthetics of Small animal and Native Wildlife, recovering post-operative patients and assisting with surgical procedures including dentals, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgeries.
• Ideally (but not essential) you will have experience working with Ezyvet and IDEXX
• Collaborative approach to problem-solving and team leadership.
