How will I Help?

This is a unique opportunity to gain end-to-end credit decisioning experience in a senior role reporting to the Head of Risk Pacific as well as the local CEO. This valuable exposure and experience will help fast track the successful candidate's career as the individual will be responsible for the credit function for Westpac in Fiji. This experience will create broader opportunities when the incumbent returns to Australia.

The Head of Credit, Fiji will be based in Suva and lead a team of 15 and will have a holistic view of Credit for all of Fiji. The team will have end-to-end responsibility for credit decisioning and will work across the corporate, institutional, commercial, and retail credit offering to deliver quality credit decisions; structure facilities appropriately and take decisive actions to maintain portfolio quality for transactions booked in Fiji within their delegated authority.

This is a rare opportunity to leverage your local Australian experience into a role that has a unique depth and breadth, you will be part of the leadership team and play an integral role in the Fiji Risk and Compliance Committee; Fiji Asset and Liability committee; Fiji Leadership Team; Fiji Pricing Committee.

Additional accountabilities include:

  • People Leader responsibilities. Coach, motivate and develop team members.
  • Ensures that all credit decisions are soundly based, involve appropriate research / analysis and reflect the organisation's credit underwriting standards, policies and risk appetite.
  • Ensures credit quality of portfolio is maintained including early problem recognition and developing appropriate corrective strategies.
  • Leads and fosters a sound credit culture through the development, coaching and mentoring of Credit team, analysts, and relationship managers.
  • Ensure that credit strategies are aligned with the business objectives and support the development of a local credit curriculum.

In this role you will work closely with the WP Fiji CEO, the consumer, commercial, retail, corporate and institutional banking relationship teams, Treasury, analysts, and product teams. You will also liaise with local regulators and the Reserve Bank of Fiji. What do I need?

To be successful you will have the following:

  • 10 years relevant industry experience including 5 in a credit related role
  • Detailed knowledge of Credit policies and procedures relating to consumer; commercial and Institutional proposals
  • Tertiary qualified with a business degree or post graduate qualifications well regarded.
  • Leadership Capabilities in Developing People, Teamwork, Leading, Strategic Thinking and Decision Making
  • Conduct relationships in a professional manner displaying integrity, strategic thinking and decision-making skills
  • Superior communication and negotiation skills
