This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024

Kinross College expanded in 2024 by commencing its first Year 11 cohort and will continue on to commence with Year 12 students in 2025. The College is now looking to add additional staff eager and enthusiastic to help shape this new and exciting era for the College.

Kinross College is seeking a Head of Learning Area (HoLA) – English who will be a key member of the College leadership team. The successful applicant will have the capacity to provide educational leadership across the English learning area and broader school community. 

They will be responsible for developing and leading an effective team of teachers focussed on providing high quality teaching and learning through curriculum planning and lesson delivery. As part of providing curriculum leadership, they will coordinate the planning, teaching, learning, and monitoring of students to ensure quality outcomes are being met. Student tracking and data analysis will play a pivotal part of the role, supporting teachers to support their students.

Experience in leading, supporting and nurturing a team would be desirable. Working with the Executive Team and wider Senior Leadership Team to drive and promote innovation and currency within the English learning area would be a key component of the role and highly regarded and supported where there is a clear benefit to students.

The successful applicant should have strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating a positive GROWTH mindset, someone who strives to excel and who is able advance the Learning Area team to achieve great outcomes. The successful applicant will ideally have a detailed knowledge of the Australian and Western Australian Curriculum for English and be experienced in teaching within the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) pathway with success.

The pastoral care, supporting student wellbeing provided to students is exceptional, led by an expert Student Services team but seen as the role of all who work in the College.

The college offers an academic extension and acceleration pathway in the MESH subjects of Years 7 to 10, where placements are keenly sought after due to its ongoing success in producing high performing students achieving excellent outcomes. The college also offers an Aviation Program that is well-resourced, including the recent introduction of a high-end flight simulator. Students also have the option to complete a Certificate III in Auto Drone Piloting.

There is also a variety of high-performance sports programs for students to develop their talents and increase engagement such as - Basketball, Soccer and Netball. The College Music Academy is expanding rapidly and again, highly regarded. The Harry Potter themed room supports and extends student literacy and problem-solving capacities via a variety of classes and courses and is treasured by many.

Kinross College has had expanding numbers over recent years and is the preferred public-school option. The College continues to upgrade and expand its facilities, to both support the addition of Years 11 and 12, as well as the increasing student enrolments in the lower secondary years. The College accepts International students and plays a vital role in supporting these students academically and socially into their new education system.

The College continues to upgrade its facilities. A third round of recently completed upgrades, will support the future expansion into upper school, as well as resulting in outstanding student and staff facilities.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

 Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
