The opportunity
Manage the software quality assurance function across internal engineering teams as well as managing the outcome-based vendor testing functions. This role needs to ensure the testing function is cost effective and provides independent governance of quality control of the solution delivered by projects.
This role involves managing the capacity, performance and development of the quality engineering managers, quality engineers, test governance managers and outsourced testing vendors in delivering testing quality and continuous automation.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the team meets business and delivery objectives with respect to testing
- Ensure that the test team financial and reporting targets are met
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to understand roadmaps to ensure quality engineering and testing needs can be met including performance and automation needs
- Build and lead a highly competent and skilled testing quality assurance team that supports both Agile and Waterfall delivery models
- Evaluate and implement training and development needs for the team
- Manage and grow testing assets (multi-vendor, onshore/offshore, direct contractor + permanent resources)
- Deliver tangible benefits to Digital & IT through operation of an effective, efficient Test operation
- Lead continuous improvement of testing capabilities optimize investments in those areas.
- Identify and drive initiatives for testing automation with both internal and external teams
- Oversee the team preparation of performance and automation business cases
- Possess the right technical understanding and skills to have meaningful discussions with cross functional teams to optimise tools and processes
- Liaise with the operations team, domain managers, project managers, product owners and scrum masters as required, to understand the quality and testing pain points and drive initiatives to address these
- Ensure the effective operation of the quality assurance function through measurement of compliance to documented SLAs and KPI’s
- Lead the delivery of quality systems and processes while monitoring and measuring for continuous improvement using delivery cycle time and system availability as key metrics.
- Vendor governance to ensure that testing SLAs/KPI’s are established for vendor delivery and that vendor performance against these are measured and reported
- Ensure standardised operational & delivery processes are in place to enable the effective preparation of test estimates, strategies, schedules, plans and completion reports
- Deploy and manage an appropriate testing policy and framework
- Possess the right technical understanding and skills to have meaningful discussions with cross functional teams to optimise tools and processes
- Implement and monitor effective reporting of quality engineering and testing metrics to measure and facilitate improvement in the quality of Testing and Test environment management
- Ensuring processes are in place for effectively managing the performance and automation test cases/knowledge base and to build up a common test case library
- Define and manage an IT Release Management policy that covers all areas of Digital & IT.
Knowledge and experience
- At least 10 years working in quality engineering and testing functions within IT Programs and Projects in Agile and other more traditional delivery models
- Highly desirable previous experience working within the telecommunication industry with knowledge of telecommunication technologies, processes and support systems
- Understanding of Quality Centre or similar Test Management tools and a range of Automation and Performance Test tools
- Proven leadership qualities with a collaborative engagement style
- Ability to adapt quickly, be a self-starter, work effectively with multiple groups, and follow issues through to resolution
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to easily develop new relationships with both suppliers and colleagues
- Ability to influence and build trust with senior leaders within TPG
- Ability to build high-performing teams, maintaining shape and effectiveness through change.
- Excellent budget management skills and successful preparation of funding proposals.
