Southern River College is seeking a dynamic Head of Learning Area (HoLA) Technologies with the skills and knowledge to drive improvement, create change and bring transformation to our school.

The successful applicant will ideally look at the existing facilities, resources, and structures to evaluate the needs and future direction of programs and courses offered. Teaching programs in Design and Technologies with tailoring courses focusing on Materials, Design and Technology in Metal and/or Wood and Building and Construction.

The successful applicant will ideally have excellent interpersonal skills and be committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and academic achievement in a supportive environment where success is celebrated. They should be student and relationship focused, highly motivated, innovative and able to work effectively in a team environment, as well as displaying an engaging and energetic teaching style.You should reflect and assess the effectiveness of your teaching practice using a variety of methods available, promote an environment of active and positive learning, and provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve their highest potential.

The successful applicant will ideally display the capacity to lead within a vibrant learning community wherein students are engaged and motivated, and appropriately supported and challenged to be confident, creative and successful learners, and active and informed community members.

They should display exemplary teaching and learning practices, and the ability to lead a learning culture that strengthens the capacity of their team. Adopting inclusive practices, building positive relationships with students, staff and the community are important components to this role.

The HoLA - Technologies should be able to mentor, monitor and use coaching practices to build staff capacity and foster innovative practices and have the skills to conduct clear conversations when necessary.

Another important aspect of the position will be the ability to understand the wider school context and constructively work with other HoLAs and the administration team to achieve broader school objectives. The successful applicant should have a growth mindset and be committed to the school's Instructional Model.

The successful applicant will ideally have a deep knowledge of the Year 7 to 12 curriculum including compliance, assessment, and reporting practices.

You should be capable of building capacity in staff and students through strategic planning, moderation, differentiated programs specific to learners needs and possess an ability to use data to inform practice and strategic direction. The College offers a variety of senior school programs both Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and General.

As the successful applicant, you should be highly motivated; student and relationship focused.

You should utilise innovative initiatives and be able to work effectively and develop your dynamic team. This will involve you reflecting and assessing the effectiveness of teaching practice and cultivating a safe learning environment.

You should utilise evidence based teaching practices whilst employing a range of assessment and reporting methods. With effective interpersonal skills, you will work closely with students, teachers, and the community to instil rigour, resilience and pride, allowing students to achieve to their full potential.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.
