The role:
Join our skilled, international team in an exciting role as Head Sommelier; collaborate to maintain and improve our already excellent service offering.
Tasks include:
- Efficient inventory management
- Collaborating with chefs and the General Manager to create and update the wine list, ensuring it reflects our vision
- Overseeing wine service, training sessions for Sommeliers and Wine Waiters
- Collaborating with winemakers and suppliers to refresh selections and secure favorable prices
- The responsibilities also extend to wine procurement, curating wine dinners and events, advising customers on pairings, guaranteeing wines are served at the optimal temperature with suitable glassware, and actively assisting with guest orders and service
- Must possess Australian working rights and hold a valid NSW RSA certificate (Please do not apply if you are outside Australia)
- Have a comprehensive understanding of wine and food pairings, particularly with emphasis on Italian, French and Australian wines
- Familiarity with COGS with a sound financial acumen is essential
- Proficiency in spoken English
- Formal hospitality qualifications; at least WSET Level 3 is mandatory with minimum of 3 years' experience in a comparable role
- Ability to craft tasteful food and wine pairings
- Positive attitude towards customer service and teamwork and experience with Italian cuisine will be highly valued
