The Ponds High School, located in the suburb of The Ponds in the north-west of Sydney is a 7-12 comprehensive High School that has 2200 students in Years 7-12. Fifty-three per cent of these students come from a non-English speaking background and 0.3% identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. The school shares a site with Riverbank Public school and is a part of an innovative and energetic community approach to teaching and learning.
The school has developed outstanding teaching and learning programs including; a strong wellbeing approach using Choice Theory and Reality Therapy, a culturally inclusive program and support for the creative and performing arts. The school has two support classes, a High potential and gifted education (HPGE) class in each year and has an active Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program using the learning platform Canvas. The Stage 5 and 6 elective structure provides extensive choice for students. Current whole school learning and teaching priorities include; using Canvas for effective learning and a Teams structure to support Strategic Improvement Plan (SIP) priorities.
There are two Head Teachers that share responsibility for whole school organisation and administration. This position predominantly manages student administration. However, in Term 2 each year they manage casual staff daily organisation.
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Demonstrated ability to effectively implement, review and improve the administrative processes of a school and manage whole school events, multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities to support teaching and learning.
2. Proven capacity to work collaboratively as an effective member of the school executive team to lead whole school events and priorities
3. Demonstrated capacity and successful experience in developing and overseeing online administration software such as Edval, Sentral, SAP and School Bytes, to allow for the management of school staffing and day to day operation of the school.
4. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills that foster positive relationships with all stakeholders in the school community.
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
