St Ives High School is a comprehensive coeducational High School with a current enrolment in excess of 1730 students. 32% of students are from non-English speaking backgrounds and the gender balance is approximately 57% boys and 43% girls. An Autism class is being established this year which will operate alongside two long established Hearing Support classes. St Ives High School also is home to an Intensive English Centre, a long running high performance and gifted education program and a substantial learning and support program, all of which are valued by the community. There have been significant advances in infrastructure in recent years resulting in improved teaching and learning facilities including a new gym which is about to be extended, in a joint project with Ku-ring-gai Council. The school’s curriculum structure is based on KLAs and the school runs a substantial student wellbeing program. There is a mix of early career and experienced teachers who have played a significant role in improved HSC results in recent years. The school has an active, supportive and highly engaged P&C and the community has high expectations for student involvement and achievement.
Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
Approval to teach Autism and Special/Inclusive Education. School-based experience and expertise in teaching, supporting and caring for students with complex needs including, but not limited to, students with Autism, hearing disabilities, intellectual disabilities, challenging behaviours and mental health concerns.
Highly developed leadership skills with the capacity to innovate, problem solve and build a team of staff who will work collaboratively to maximise educational engagement and wellbeing for diverse learners.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to develop, implement and evaluate quality individualised learning and support programs, including transition programs, to facilitate improved outcomes for students with substantial and extensive needs.
Highly developed organisational and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to positively contribute to whole school strategic directions to improve the outcomes of all students.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
