The Rivers Secondary College Richmond RiverHigh Campus, located in the Lismore township, is a medium size comprehensive public high school. Our school community includes a unique mix of rural and urban families, socioeconomic groups, diverse households, alternative lifestyles and identities. The student enrolment sits at 530, with 98 coming from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds. First Nations cultures represent a significant percentage of our student body. Student enrolment numbers have decreased over the last two years due to demographic shifts in our local population. Our school was significantly impacted during early 2022 with a devastating flood event that is still having a significant impact on the community, with a number of families leaving the area due to losing housing, an ongoing housing crisis and loss of employment in the local area. RRHC is currently on a temporary site.
We continue to foster strong partnerships with our Aboriginal Education Consultative Group, the Brisbane Broncos, Southern Cross University, various businesses and industries with expert partners via the Rivers Academy of STEM Excellence. We have a range of programs within the campus including Writing in Secondary, Math Grow Team, Quality teaching rounds, and Berry Street Education Model.
We are committed to continuous improvement in quality teaching and learning, to provide a learning environment in which all students are valued and can experience growth and success in their school and post-school pathways. We promote a culture based on quality relationships between staff, students and the community, grounded in high expectations and respect, which fosters strong wellbeing and increased student engagement.
