Brain and Mind Centre’s Youth Mental Health and Technology team conduct research across several streams that explore digital pathways, systems science, and access to mental health care for young people. Extensive collaborations with health service providers, industry, government, philanthropic and research organisations enable us to quickly and effectively translate our research findings into large-scale health system innovations and mental health policy reform, facilitating continuous improvements to mental health services for the benefit of young people in Australia.

The youth mental health and technology team puts young people at the centre of their own care. We partner

with health services to develop innovative treatments for those aged 12-25 with emerging mental health

disorders. The integration of cutting-edge research with safe and effective clinical care enables us to quickly

and effectively translate our research findings into clinical services, facilitating continuous improvements to

mental health services for the benefit of young people in Australia.

We are looking for a Health Economistto contribute to a research project of national significance for youth mental health.  The right care, first time where you live project will assist policy makers to make the best investment decisions relating to youth mental health in communities across Australia.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop the health economics components of decision support tools using system dynamics modelling
  • lead the health economic analytic work by undertaking economic evaluations using systems modelling, including the costing of resources, estimation of health benefits, collecting other quantitative evidence to support the program and developing decision analysis and economic modelling,
  • conduct within-trial economic evaluations integrated into the clinical trials streams of research,
  • provide project management oversight for the development of key projects, mainly economic model development
  • support research activities consistent with the needs of the group and the agreed research program
  • lead and support high-quality research outputs in peer review journals, including methodological and empirical research findings

About you

  • PhD qualification in a relevant discipline and experience, including health economics, public health and epidemiology
  • Strong quantitative research skills in statistics, mathematics, systems modelling, and/or data science.
  • ability to work collaboratively and effectively across teams
  • demonstrated high-level skills related to the collection, collation and analysis of health data
  • high-level organisational and time management skills with demonstrated expertise in managing input from multiple stakeholders
  • knowledge and / or experience in applying health economics approaches relevant to population health, mental health and/or social policy with a willingness to learn system dynamic modelling
  • preferably experience with communicating health economics concepts and the results of economic analysis to a wide range of decision-makers and stakeholders
