Health & Safety Representative Support Officer
- $105,644.00 per annum + superannuation (pro rata)
- Ongoing, Part Time - 2 days per week (one day either a Thursday or Friday)
- Melbourne CBD location - Hybrid work mode
Purpose
The purpose of the role is to provide education and awareness to Health & Safety Representatives (HSR's) and support the establishment of sustainable networks of HSR's. These activities will enhance the level of understanding of Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) across the targeted sectors and facilitate improved safety outcomes.
Key Accountabilities
- Engage directly with HSR's across all industries and their employee representatives
- Promote employee representation to encourage the establishment of designated work groups (DWG's) with elected HSR's
- Consult with and provide advice to HSR's in order to support them in their role in achieving safer workplaces
- Promote WorkSafe approved HSR initial and refresher training to ensure it is aligned with current legislation and effective health and safety workplaces
- Support HSR's to link in with other HSR's to increase HSR capabilities, support them in their role, promote HSR networks, share solutions and information and build peer support
- Promote consultation between employers and employees on OHS matters
- Provide expertise to assist HSR's to resolve issues at the workplace
- Increase the knowledge and skills of HSR's to identifying hazards and controlling risks to enable them to negotiate and participate in consultative mechanisms at their workplaces
- Facilitate regular HSR forums.

Skills and experience
- Sound knowledge of as well as practical experience implementing the current OHS legislation in Victoria
- High level communication skills (written and oral) including facilitation of groups, the ability to give advice and information and the ability to interpret existing legislation and policy
- Ability to share general knowledge and experience with others to facilitate on the job learning
- Ability to liaise in a professional manner with a diverse stakeholder group, using a range of influencing, negotiation & conflict resolution approaches
- The ability to work autonomously and in a team environment
- Construction industry experience desirable
Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent desirable
