The Health Security Department provides a broad range of services and support functions to ensure the safety, security and wellbeing of all staff, patients, visitors, and contractors of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (HHS).
Health Security Officers provide a high quality, best practice frontline security and emergency response service. The successful candidate/s will be required to participate in a continuous shift (24 hour) roster, 7 days a week. Townsville Hospital and Health Service is the public healthcare provider for more than 250,000 people across a geographic area of 150,000km2, delivering a comprehensive range of services across 21 facilities, from primary care in regional locations to highly specialised care at the main hospital.

About the role
- Facilitate the provision of a safe workplace environment for staff, patients and visitors and the physical security of all facilities, buildings and infrastructure that support the delivery of clinical services.
- First response to staff duress alarms, facility fire alarms, requests for security assistance in support to clinical service delivery and declared facility emergency situations in accordance with legislation, policy and procedure.
- Operation of facility CCTV networks and control room monitoring functions.
- Conduct of regular foot and vehicle patrols and static monitoring of facility buildings, grounds and car parks.
- Provision of safety/security support to staff including all-hours escorts.
- Prevent, investigate and record security incidents including but not limited to theft, wilful damage, assault, trespass and public nuisance.
- As required, under the direction and supervision of clinical staff, escort, monitor and restrain patients.
- Whilst not mandatory, possession of a Certificate III in Security Operations or equivelant or higher would be well regarded.
- Whilst not mandatory a current security licence would be well regarded.
- Possess and maintain a current class C Australian drivers licence.
- Possess a high level of self-control, emotional stability and be prepared to encounter potentially traumatic incidents (e.g. viewing deceased patients, physically handling a frail elderly.
- Adhere to a strict uniform and appearance policy.
- Disclose in writing any pre-existing injury or medical condition in accordance with the Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003.
- It is a mandatory requirement to be and to remain vaccinated against COVID-19.
