The role
The Hearings Coordinator oversees the daily administrative responsibilities related to scheduling hearings. This role involves handling a substantial volume of intricate tasks to guarantee the prompt completion of statutory reviews. Your responsibilities includes:
- Apply skills and knowledge to meet information needs for Tribunal proceedings, ensuring precise documentation and timely material distribution.
- Collaborate with Mental Health professionals and legal practitioners for seamless tribunal hearings, addressing practical needs such as evidence, witness arrangements, and special accommodations.
- Coordinate with private psychiatrists for Tribunal Ordered Examinations, overseeing logistics and documentation.
- Utilize case management principles for a thorough understanding of individual patient files, maintaining organized information.
You will have demonstrated:
- Knowledge or ability to learn the Mental Health Act 2016 and Forensic Disability Act 2011, focusing on Mental Health Review Tribunal operations.
- Initiative and personal management skills, balancing tasks effectively to meet organizational and legislative requirements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, adept at consulting, negotiating, and problem-solving with diverse stakeholders, and capable of developing operational guidelines.
- Experience in working autonomously and as a team member, enhancing organizational effectiveness and achieving strategic goals in a dynamic environment.

The Mental Health Review Tribunal (the Tribunal), an independent body under the Mental Health Act 2016, reviews the involuntary status of individuals with mental illnesses or intellectual disabilities. Its scope includes treatment authorities, forensic orders, fitness for trial assessments, minor detentions in high-security units, examination authorities, regulated treatments, patient transfers, and a limited number of appeals. The Tribunal, led by the President, Deputy President, Executive Officer, staff, and Members (including lawyers, psychiatrists, and qualified individuals), exercises jurisdiction and facilitates its functions.
