HOUSING SUPPORT WORKER - Access & Intake
Youth Link is a community-based organisation situated in Cairns, working with homeless and ‘at risk’ young people aged between 12 and 24 years, to enhance their health and wellbeing.
We are seeking a youth-friendly, motivated, and organised person to work in our Drop in Space.
Key Job Responsibilities
- To provide crisis assistance & referral advice to at risk and Homeless youth
- To work with the Housing Services team in their activities to assist homeless young people to establish & maintain supported accommodation placements in Youth Link’s Transitional Housing Program.
- To work with the Housing Services team to assist homeless young people to apply for & maintain Independant tenancies both in community housing and private martlet leasing.
- To liaise with clients, families and stakeholders to develop and implement support plans that improve the general barriers impacting the young person’s experience with homelessness.
- To participate in client intake & establish ‘open support periods’ / support plans on the SHIP/SRS across Youth Link’s Specialist Homelessness Programs
- To provide Housing information and support to young people seeking to establish accommodation.
Applicants will have demonstrated skills and experience providing assessment, case management, crisis intervention and outreach supports to vulnerable and disadvantaged young people,
Previous experience working in a similar position will be highly regarded,
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience working with young people, to advocate on their behalf and assist them to navigate their rights to income, education, health and Housing and practice independent lifestyles in their community.
- Demonstrated skills and experience providing assessment, case support, crisis intervention and outreach supports to vulnerable and disadvantaged young people,
- Well-developed communication & de-escalation skills and experience in effectively managing young people with challenging behaviors.
- Experienced in using the Microsoft suite of products, and client Specialist Homelessness Information Platform (SHIP) information database SRS/Info change.
- High level of ability to work autonomously and as part of a team in a multidisciplinary agency, establishing work priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and culture, and an understanding of the diverse circumstances and issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Requirements
- Tertiary and /or completed a qualification in community services /s in a relevant discipline.
- previous experience working with disadvantaged and vulnerable young people.
- Eligibility for a Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
- A current unrestricted Qld driver’s license.
