Position Objectives:
IWAA is looking for a Mobile Support and Housing Worker to join our Brisbane Office. This position is part-time (20hours per week + On Call roster).The Mobile Support and Housing Worker plays a pivotal role in a team dedicated to supporting and empowering women and children facing crisis due to domestic violence. This position involves providing information, support, and advocacy both within IWAA's refuge and in the broader community. The goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected by domestic violence, assisting them in accessing necessary services and resources.
Main Tasks:
- Conduct crisis intake, counselling, support, advocacy, and assistance to clients in crisis or requiring follow-up support.
- Provide crisis assessment, referral, and support to victims of family violence and their children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
- Deliver induction for women and children entering the refuge, outlining house rules, confidentiality, and rights and responsibilities.
- Respond to referrals from DV Connect, QLD Police, and other stakeholders, offering risk assessments, safety planning, crisis support, advocacy, and referrals.
- Provide emotional support to aid in the recovery from the effects of domestic violence, especially for children transitioning into shelter.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning with clients to mitigate future violence.
- Develop case management plans in collaboration with clients, prioritizing safety and well-being.
- Assist clients in accessing necessary services and resources, including housing, legal aid, and educational institutions.
- Identify housing needs and work towards sustainable long-term housing solutions in collaboration with clients.
- Facilitate group work services or information workshops for women affected by domestic violence.
- Maintain accurate documentation and participate in data collection for reporting purposes.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work or relevant field.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of domestic violence impacts and crisis intervention.
- Experience working with women and children in crisis situations, preferably within a case management framework.
- Familiarity with relevant legislation and legal processes.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
Mandatory Selection Criteria:
- Current Qld working with Children Check (Blue card).
- Valid driver's license.
- Full working Rights
Desirable Selection Criteria:
- Ability to communicate in a second language
