Position Overview: The HSE Manager for Renewable Energy Substation will be responsible for overseeing all health, safety, and environmental aspects of our Renewable Energy Substations. This role will involve developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive HSE programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, mitigate risks, and promote a culture of safety and environmental sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement HSE policies, procedures, and programs specific to Renewable Energy Substations.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of substations to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Provide leadership and guidance to site personnel on HSE best practices, procedures, and protocols.
- Coordinate safety training and awareness programs for employees and contractors working within substations.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, and develop recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HSE regulations, industry standards, and best practices applicable to Renewable Energy Substations.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to integrate HSE considerations into project planning and execution.
- Monitor environmental performance and implement measures to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainability.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures for substations, including drills and simulations to test preparedness.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with permits and reporting requirements.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Tertiary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in HSE management, preferably in the electrical supply industry or power generation industry.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and implementing corrective actions.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and the ability to foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM preferred.
- Experience with Renewable Energy projects, substations, or electrical utilities is a plus.
Skills and abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong knowledge of HSE regulations and standards, including OSHA, EPA, and relevant industry guidelines.
