Job description

The HR and WHS Manager Blended role is a pivotal role responsible for integrating Human Resources and Work Health and Safety functions within our organisation.

This combined role requires expertise in both HR and WHS functions, to create a cohesive approach that promotes a safe, compliant, and productive work environment. The role involves overseeing various aspects of employee management, policy development, compliance, and continuous improvement in alignment with organisational objectives.

This role requires an individual who possesses a comprehensive understanding of HR practices, employment laws, and Work Health and Safety regulations.

The incumbent will drive the strategic alignment of HR and WHS objectives, ensuring compliance, employee welfare, and the overall success of the organisation.

The HR and WHS Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective management of Human Resources and workplace health and safety within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

On-Call Reviews: Be available to support the on-call manager to address urgent HR and WHS concerns that have arisen out of hours, ensuring prompt resolution and appropriate guidance.

Strategic Alignment: Develop, implement, and monitor HR and WHS performance indicators aligned with organizational goals, contributing to the overall success of the company. Develop and execute strategies that align HR and WHS goals with the organization's broader objectives. Collaborate with leadership to define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for both HR and WHS functions.

Complex Staffing Issues: Provide expert guidance in managing complex staffing situations, such as conflicts, performance issues, and disciplinary matters, with the aim of maintaining a harmonious work environment. Oversee the recruitment process, ensuring it complies with relevant laws and regulations. Manage complex staffing issues, such as performance concerns and disciplinary actions.

Policy Framework Development: Develop, update, and maintain HR and WHS policies and procedures, ensuring they are comprehensive, up-to-date, and in line with relevant laws and industry standards, Adhering to the Fair Work Act, SCHADS award, and WHS laws in NSW and A.C.T. Develop a comprehensive policy framework to guide organizational practices.

Development of Training Registers: Create and maintain training registers to track employee skill development, ensuring compliance with mandatory training requirements which will ensure staff compliance with WHS regulations and HR policies. Identify training needs and implement development programs to enhance employee skills.

Proper Record Retention: Oversee the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date employee record retention, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and confidentiality standards. Maintain accurate and confidential records for both HR and WHS matters.

Quarterly Reviews: Conduct regular comprehensive reviews of HR and WHS policies, procedures, and practices to identify areas for improvement and ensure ongoing compliance. Collaborate with the relevant stakeholders to address identified issues.

Recruitment: Oversee and complete the recruitment process, ensuring it complies with the relevant laws and regulations. Oversee the recruitment process including job advertisement creation, candidate screening, interviews, and onboarding, to attract and retain top-tier talent.

Alignment of Staff Records: Streamline and centralize employee records, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and easy access for relevant stakeholders across all software systems.

Understanding of SCHADS Award: Maintain and demonstrate a clear understanding of the Social, Community, Home Care, and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHADS) to ensure accurate payroll, leave management, and compliance with relevant regulations.

Work Cover and Employsure Collaboration: Work closely with WorkCover authorities to manage workplace injuries and workers' compensation claims. Collaborate with HR advisors from Employsure to address complex HR and WHS challenges.

Key Outcome Identification: Identify key outcomes related to HR and WHS, such as employee satisfaction, retention, and safety improvements. Contribute to the organization's growth by fostering a safe and compliant work environment.

Enhanced Compliance: Ensure that all HR and WHS practices are compliant with legal requirements and industry standards, minimizing organizational risk.

Improved Staff Management: Facilitate effective staff management, leading to increased employee engagement, performance, and retention.

Safe Work Environment: Implement strategies that enhance workplace safety, fostering a culture of health and safety awareness among employees.

Efficient Recruitment: Source and onboard skilled employees efficiently, contributing to the organization's growth and success.

Policy Adherence: Promote adherence to HR and WHS policies, fostering consistency and fairness in employee treatment.

Continuous Improvement: Drive ongoing improvement in HR and WHS practices through regular reviews, analysis, and adaptation.

The HR and WHS Manager will play a critical role in the company's growth trajectory by ensuring the organization's workforce is effectively managed and compliant with relevant regulations. Probation Period: The probationary period for this role will be three months, during which the HR and WHS Manager's performance, skills, and alignment with the position's responsibilities will be assessed. At the end of the probationary period, a comprehensive evaluation will determine the candidate's suitability for continued employment in the role.

4. Expertise in developing and implementing HR and WHS policies in accordance with legal requirements.

5. Familiarity with the Fair Work Act, SCHADS award, and Work Health and Safety laws.

6. Experience working with WorkCover authorities and external HR advisors like Employsure.

7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration across departments.

8. Strong analytical abilities to conduct quarterly reviews and identify improvement areas.
