Job description

About the role:

Having recently appointed our new Manager Hydrogeology, we are now building the team and are looking for 2 specialists to join the Hydrogeology team. Reporting to the Manager Hydrogeology, these roles will lead hydrological and water balance studies and develop a water management strategy to support optimised mine development planning and approvals.

Key duties:

  • To define the dewatering and water management requirements to support study teams.
  • To provide guidance and advice to geologists, hydrogeologists, and key contractors on exploration drilling, bore design and construction, bore capacity and aquifer testing.
  • To inform Mine Planners of the predicted water levels and rate of drawdown to constrain the mine plan.
  • To assist with due diligence reviews on new projects with relation to Hydrogeology and Hydrology
  • To ensure that the hydrogeological conceptual models are appropriately represented in numerical models.
  • Coordinate groundwater studies and field investigations to improve hydrogeological understanding for new growth projects.
  • Conduct and co-ordinate baseline monitoring to support project approvals.
  • Document and report inputs to the mine plan and findings of exploration drilling and bore construction.
  • Hydrogeological SME for mine development and approval related studies
  • Provide technical input and delivery of hydrogeological projects related to mine dewatering and depressurisation, water supply, surplus water management and mine waste management.
  • Develop programs of work, budgets, scopes of work and engage resources to undertake hydrogeological projects.
  • Prepare technical inputs for enabling approvals for site works.
  • Undertake and oversee technical activities including site investigation design and supervision, monitoring, interpretation, development of robust conceptual site models, numerical modelling and design reports.
  • Track and report project progress on a consistent basis to various stakeholders, considering strategy, scope changes, and progress.
  • Manage technical and project progress, assess and adjust, as and when required, and measure project viability and performance to identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure that contractors and sub-contractors follow and have actions that support compliance with HSEC principals and requirements through the life cycle of the projects. Ensure that all work is executed safely and according to design with the goal of zero harm to personnel and environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all local legislation and regulations, site procedures including safety, health, environment and community.

Previous experience:

  • Minimum 8 years previous experience in a hydrogeologist role, with at least 4 years of this time involved in an active mining environment.
  • Experience managing Hydro drilling programs and contracts.
  • Experience in preparing and managing study scopes, schedules and budgets.
  • Direct exposure to the Pilbara geological and hydrogeological environment.
  • Experience in managed aquifer recharge (MAR) schemes preferable.
  • Track record of supervising field programmes including drilling and test pumping.
  • Demonstrated ability to present data and outcomes of investigations and capacity to formally report findings.
  • Commitment to safety leadership and safe working procedures
  • Demonstrated experience resourcing project needs to reach objectives and are you able to manage resources in an effective and efficient manner to support task and project delivery.
  • Solid interpersonal skills to interact and maintain effective relationships with contractors, regulators and community stakeholders.
  • Previous experience in Open Pit mine dewatering
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and supervising drilling and test pumping contractors.
  • Direct experience in the operation and maintenance of remote telemetry monitoring system
  • Experience in the collation, interpretation and presentation of complex hydrogeological data sets.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in geoscience or hydrogeology
  • Preferably post graduate qualifications in hydrogeology
  • Current Australian manual C class driver's licence
  • Be able to attend remote sites as required.
  • Ability to pass a standard medical and DAS screen.
