Kew High School is a high-performing co-educational school located in the inner eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The school was established in 1963 and continues to proudly provide an outstanding holistic education to students of the local community. In 2024, Kew High School is comprised of 1021 students and 103 full-time equivalent staff. The staff includes three Principal Class members, approximately 78 equivalent full-time teachers and 25 education support staff. The school prioritises high expectations and places students at the centre of a comprehensive learning and teaching program.

The Kew High School motto is ASPIRE, STRIVE, ACHIEVE, and the values of the school are embedded in the first word of the motto, ASPIRE. Students and staff are intentionally and actively guided by the values of Accountability, Social Equity, Participation, Integrity, Respect and Excellence in all aspects of school life. In 2020, Kew High School received $10.8m as part of the Victorian School Building Authority¿s Capital Works Program for the construction of a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) building. Our new innovative teaching and learning space have been opened at the start of term 3, 2022.

Selection Criteria

1. Highly demonstrated skills in planning, decision making and resource management to set a school or organisation¿s ICT strategy and translate this to the day-to-day operations of an ICT Team.

2. Proven ability to set goals and priorities, monitor progress and meet deadlines and targets.

3. Proven ability to lead, manage and capacity-build a team of staff.

4. Capacity to develop and implement programs with a high degree of autonomy.

5. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills in individual and group contexts.

6. Ability to work collaboratively and constructively with internal and external stakeholders.

Role

This position requires 4-6 weeks of attendance during the school vacation period.

Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions.  Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations. 

Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal.  Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school.  Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.

Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.  Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the delivery of support services to students, teachers, parents and other school clients.
  • Ensure all external providers deliver the required service.

ICT strategy and leadership

¿         Providing leadership, strategic and tactical direction to members of the ICT Team.

¿         Liaising with the Principal and Leadership Team to ensure ICT supports the school¿s teaching and learning vision.

¿         Committing to continuous improvement by considering innovative opportunities to integrate new ICT solutions.

¿         Leading efficient and reliable change processes for the implementation of new ICT solutions.

People and team management

¿         Managing the performance of the ICT Team, including capacity-building of team members, positive development of team culture and continuous improvement.

ICT day-to-day operations

¿         Ensuring the day-to-day operations of the ICT Team are efficient and effective, that faults and service interruptions are responded to with a sense of urgency and that service delivery processes are in place to prioritise and manage workloads and workflows.

¿         Managing the ICT infrastructure and equipment across the school.

¿         Developing and maintaining ICT policies, standards and procedures as required to support the activities of the ICT Team.

¿         Ensuring the security and integrity of the school¿s ICT system in line with DET policies and procedures.

¿         Leading the development, testing and execution of ICT disaster recovery and service continuity processes and technologies.

¿         Effectively managing resources, including budgeting, ordering, contract and service agreements consistent with school priorities and policy.

Staff & Student Device Management

·         Collaborate with the Leadership Team to manage the staff enhanced notebook program and the student prescribed device program.

·         Oversee school device management using Microsoft Endpoint and Intune.

Stakeholder management

¿         Establishing and maintaining positive professional relationships with DET¿s Information Management and Technology Division and external ICT support and resource providers.

¿         Overseeing the performance of external support providers in delivery of agreed services

Other duties as directed by the Executive Leadership Team and Business Manager
