Property Law (Legal)

Part time (3 days a week)

Fixed term 12 months with potential for a permanent position

$80k-$93 part time (0.6FTE) package - negotiable based on PQE

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting directly to the Senior Legal Counsel – Property at Mutual Marketplace Legal Pty Ltd and is supported by a Leasing and Property Paralegal. This important role provides legal, solution-based advice and requires a high degree of judgement in the commercial application of laws and regulations to the business. 

 

This is a part time (0.6 FTE), 12-month fixed term contract, with potential to develop into a permanent role based on projected business growth. 

 

Your working week will be busy and diverse and include the following core responsibilities (as an example):

  1. Work with and provide legal advice to the business and our customers, including:
  • drafting, negotiating, reviewing and advising on a wide range of retail and commercial leases, subleases, disclosure documents, letters of offer, extensions and renewals of leases;
  • devising legal strategies to minimise risk to customers and Mutual Marketplace;
  • advising on statutory compliance and regulatory issues; 
  • developing (and updating as appropriate) template agreements, internal policies, other precedents, and processes; and
  1. Provide legal advice to clients of Mutual Marketplace Legal within the agreed scope of services, and costs agreement, and in accordance with the requirements of an incorporated legal practice;
  2. Establish and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external);
  3. Monitor legal and compliance risks and work with the Senior Legal Counsel to formulate appropriate mitigation strategies; and
  4. Liaise with the Paralegal Leasing, property team members and other staff as directed;

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and expected to work with a high level of autonomy, will have strong demonstrated experience within a similar position and hold a current practising certificate.  

You will demonstrate exceptional communication skills coupled with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships and a passion for delivering customer-focused services.

In addition, you will have:

  • Ideally 2 years’ post admission experience, or greater in retail and commercial leasing;
  • Experience drafting and negotiating retail and commercial leases and associated documents;
  • Strong communication skills with natural ability to speak with a wide range of stakeholders, including Mutual Marketplace senior executives and workplace colleagues, Mutual Marketplace customers, landlords, landlord agents;
  • Experience in successfully managing stakeholders and their needs, preferably in a shared service environment;
  • Skilled in succinct, plain English drafting; 
  • Ability to work with autonomy, prioritise tasks and identify risks;
  • Proven consistently high attention to detail;
  • Experience in being commercial and solutions focused.
