Tell me more...The Indigenous Hospital Liaison Officer provides culturally appropriate support, advocacy and practical assistance for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander patients, their families / carers and the community to receive coordinated care across the health continuum of care.

To be successful in this role you will have:
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, protocols and history, as well as demonstrated experience in engaging with FNQ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Demonstrated ability to assess social and practical needs of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander patients and their families, advocate and support in a multi-disciplinary team approach and the ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of how to engage and refer with local government and non-government agencies regarding the provision of integrated and coordinated systems of care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Requirements for the role:
- To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
- This position may require you to work on call as per business requirements.
- Potential applicants are advised that the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000 requires Queensland Health to seek a ‘working with children check'; from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian prior to appointment to this position.
