Job description

Eligible Health Workers who move to Queensland from interstate and international jurisdictions to take up permanent employment may receive up to $20,000 in incentive payments under the   Queensland Health Attraction Incentive Scheme 

About your opportunity  The Indigenous Outpatient Liaison Officer will support and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary teams across the Townsville Hospital and Health Service by providing cultural consultancy and education to ensure health services provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients are culturally appropriate and safe.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

  • Contribute to the work environment and the development of workplans and team goals.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the social determinants of health affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Ability to understand the whole health system ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are connected to the services applicable to their health needs.
  • Interpersonal communications skills including negotiation and networking.
  • Ability to manage own work with limited supervision through the use of planning and time management showing initiative and positive attitude.
  • Ability to advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues and demonstrate skills in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team addressing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues.

Generous remuneration package value up to $110,852 p.a. comprising:

  • Salary range of $3380.20 to $3724.00 p.f. (AO4)
  • Annual leave with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation

Requirements

  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to work with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. 
  • Blue Care Checks: Potential applicants are advised that the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000 requires Queensland Health to seek a ‘working with children check' from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian prior to appointment to this position. 5.1.
