Grade: Inspector

Salary Range: $108,610 - $117,937+ superannuation

Duration: Ongoing (permanent)

Location: Parramatta or Gosford

About Us

SafeWork NSW is the state’s workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to reduce work related fatalities, serious injuries and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety legislation and improving the safety culture in NSW workplaces.

The Metropolitan Construction Compliance division of SafeWork NSW works with all construction industry stakeholders to minimise harm and deliver on the NSW Building and Construction Work Health & Safety Blueprint.

 We also work with other key regulators such as the State Insurance Regulatory Authority, NSW Fair Trading, and the NSW Building Commission.

About the team

We are looking for an Inspector to join our team within theMetropolitan Construction Compliance, Harm Prevention & Compliance Programs, SafeWork NSW

The team is responsible for delivering programs to build industry capability through collaborative stakeholder engagement, evidence, and risk-based Harm Prevention projects aimed at reducing fatalities, serious injuries and illness.

About the role

As an Inspector in Metropolitan Construction
Compliance, you will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking proactive site inspections, responding to customer requests, completing preliminary incident investigations, delivering presentations, and working with major industry stakeholders to improve safety standards.
  • Providing advice regarding safe work practices and how to comply with work health and safety legislation.
  • Collecting relevant information and apply transparent evidence-based decision when working to improve safety.
  • Producing high quality reports to confirm your actions.
  • Ensuring internal administrative compliance by completing travel, expense, and time keeping records.
  • Contributing to a positive, supportive, and fun workplace.

About You

  • Equivalent relevant qualifications and experience in the building industry and a working understanding of safety requirements applicable to construction.
  • Strong communication skills to engage and influence key stakeholders to improve regulatory outcomes.
  • High level written communication skills and an ability to understand comprehensive and/or technical reports.
  • Well established resilience skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating programs or projects of work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of digital technology.

  • Work a 38-hour working week, including some weekends and participate in the After-Hours Emergency Response Service  
  • Receive an attractive salary package along with the required tools of the trade, including a vehicle with access to private use (currently at a cost of approximately $210 per fortnight)  
  • Be able to access flexible working conditions within operational requirements 

Essential requirements 

  • Ability to travel, work remotely and out of usual business hours
  • Hold a NSW ‘C’ class drivers' licence with a satisfactory safe driving record and a requirement to maintain the safe driving record throughout employment
  • Satisfactory criminal record check
  • Satisfactory medical assessment capacity regarding physical and psychological impacts of the inherent duties of the role
  • Undertake the 12-month New Inspector Training Program (NITP). This intensive program is delivered by our Registered Training Organisation and combines mandatory components of induction, class training, online learning, completion of set assessments and tasks, and extensive on-the-job field training with regular travel throughout NSW.
