Intermediate Accountant

This busy and challenging full time role has a salary of $71,000 p.a. and is based in Singleton, NSW.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Business Services Manager, the key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

• Provide tax and accounting compliance services to our clients, including preparing financial statements, income tax returns and business activity statements for SME clients (Company, Trust, Partnerships & Sole Trader);
• Providing reporting services, including analysing ledger data, such as reconciliations and ledger balances;
• Prepare reconciliation of net profit to taxable income noting permanent and timing differences and calculate the tax payable.
• Perform relevant calculations and complete schedule.
• Recognise capital gains transactions and calculate liability (with supervision for small business CGT concessions and business sales).
• Identify the correct tax treatment for prepayments, accruals and provisions.
• Identify the required tax adjustments, accurately calculate tax liability for the year and recognise instalments already paid.
• Knowledge of superannuation including taxation and regulatory issues.
• Identify if the client has complied with the superannuation guarantee.
• Prepare annual workers compensation reconciliations.
• Prepare annual payroll tax reconciliations.
• Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS).
• Prepare Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) returns including the calculation of liability from the information provided by the client.
• Prepares accurate financial accounts without direction and with minimal review points.
• Identify any inconsistencies in the current year balances through comparative analysis on balance sheet items.
• Prepare financial statements from an adjusted trial balance, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements and statements of retained earnings.
• Ability to access and research information, including the use of electronic sources (Thomson Reuters on-line and the OSR and ATO websites).

Required skills and experience

• Hold a bachelor degree and a masters degree in accounting and/or commerce
• At least 2 years' experience as an accountant
• Knowledge of business operations, structures and the dynamics of how they interact.
• Able to complete income tax returns for individuals, company's, trusts, partnerships and super funds within the assigned deadline and productivity target.
• Focuses on delivering high quality work with minimal errors.
• Understands accounting standards and application.
• Understands the cash versus accruals basis of accounting.
