Job description

Natural Biotech Pty Ltd a South Australia based company which involved in Research Development of Natural Biotech Products. The company is a newly established in South Australia through overseas investors. The current product is a type of white kidney extract healthy supplementary product which contains natural amylase inhibitor, which proven can be effectively control weight and adjust the after meal blood sugar. The early stage of research and IP were registered in China, however the research and product development is expanding into the Australian market. The company will also be expanding the research of a wide range of similar natural biotech healthy supplements products in future in Australia.

The company has reached commercial research agreement with a SA University and currently negotiating production of with local pharmaceutical production firms.

This role will be the key to ensure the company's intellectual property rights are maintained, all products meet eligibility requirements for patents (including functionality, safety and originality), and Patents are processed.

The IP and Patents Officer will be responsible for the preparation of all company patent applications, including checking them to make sure that they meet all legal requirements and patent standards to enable approval.

This role required conducting detailed research into existing patents using a variety of sources, including technical documents and computer databases. Furthermore, IP and Patents Officer conducts technical analysis of the application and write reports based on their assessments. This role will increase productivity, inspire and motivate team members, and optimize the company's market share. IP and Patents Officer will be someone creative, analytical, detail-oriented and self-organizing as well as excellent communication skills. Interstate and overseas travels will be necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure company's IP, product research outcome and Patents were protected, correctly registered
  • Liaison with company overseas stakeholders to obtain necessary information with transfer IP registration over to Australia
  • Review company application to determine whether the invention(s) claimed should be granted a patent or not
  • Undertake manual searches of previous publications to establish that company inventions are patentable
  • Use online technical databases to consider technical issues related to company's inventions
  • Publish the applications together with search results, under company's name
  • Produce search reports and sending these reports to external Patent Lawyers and registration body with patent or IP registration for company products and inventions
  • Liaise with external Patent Lawyers to prevent and resolve possible disputed matters with potential competitors or similar products
  • Draft legal analysis reports for company senior managers to identify and analyses all issues during various stages of the patent application process
  • Participate in negotiation meetings with patent lawyers to assess legal compliance of inventions
  • Maintain the quality, productivity and timely processing of company patent applications.
  • IP and Patent impletion and input for company product's TGA registration procedure or with manufacturing firm

Key Qualifications, Experience and Attributes:

IP and Patents Officer is a role that demands a formal bachelor degree in scientific, technical, or engineering or three to five years of experience, the successful candidates for this role will be expected to have following skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in scientific, technical, engineering or degree from a technical college
  • Proven work experience as a Patent Officer or similar role, 3 years above experience is desirable
  • Sound technical knowledge and the ability to adapt it
  • Ability to apply legal concepts
  • Solid developed research, analytical and conceptual thinking
  • Problem-Solving Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and articulate complex ideas both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure
  • Demonstrated desire for continued learning and ability to learn through feedback
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Chinese Mandarin
  • Familiarity with Chinese customers likes and dislikes desirable
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience working to and exceeding targets

Full-time position for the right candidate

Salary range $70,000-80,000 per annum plus superannuation
